This month’s meeting had a good turnout. As always, we covered many topics that different departments wanted to discuss. We also saw some new faces at this meeting which was a nice change.
We started the meeting going over the recent arbitrations that we are going through. We talked about their status and what we can expect. There was also some discussion of possible solutions. We continue to get updates on theses at our regular monthly meetings.
We also touched on the recent decision to withdraw union support from our Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) here at the Harrison Power Plant. There was a lengthy discussion about this and how it may affect us in the future. We talked about how difficult it may be to rejoin the VPP Program, what that would entail, and only if we agreed to support it..
We ended our meeting with a brief discussion about the things that go on in the different departments. The monthly meetings are the best place to hear the things that happen in the other departments. It is nice to be able to discuss the things that go on with people who may have a different view than you. It is also nice to get the guidance of other members who have seen some situations that you may not know how to handle.
As always, get involved and stay informed. The best way to do that is to come to the monthly meetings. The nice thing about this union and the monthly meeting is you can change things and have a voice to contribute by just coming to the monthly meetings. Hope to see you at the next monthly meeting!
