We had a very good turn out at this month’s meeting. Bernie LaBelle was also there to talk with us a little. We went over a multitude of plantwide topics as well as departmentalized issues. We closed by going over the productivity of the Labor/Management Meetings and discussed how we would like to see those go moving forward.
We opened the meeting with our usual role call and formalities then dove into the what has been going on around the plant lately. There were plenty of items to talk about from projects to staffing. We covered what has been going on at the other power stations and where things stood with the selling, closing, etc. of those facilities. We also went over some of the finer points of the Voluntary Enhanced Retirement Program (VERP) currently being offed to the company employees. The main talking point seemed to be the new intern/trial employees in the Storeroom. For those unaware of the situation, there will be some temporary workers in the Storeroom whom have applied for the open position we have in that department. These people are from one of our Mon Power Call Centers, and they are filling in/trying out life in a power station. According to management, after their trial period the Storeroom position will be re-posted, and if they liked the different pace of the position they will apply for the position officially. Accordingly, if one of our employees were to apply for the Storeroom position they would take precedence over outside applicants.
We went over some of the recent difficulties with using our sick leave and how that has been affecting our members. Obviously, there is a current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in effect, and procedures to be followed when using sick time are covered in there. The current copy of the CBA and all of our current Memorandum of Agreements (MOA’s) are available on our website under News–>UWUA Local 304 News–>304 Resources. The hard copy should be finished at the printers soon and will be handed out to all members as soon as we we get them.
There wasn’t a lot of new business to discuss, but we did touch on the Labor/Management Meetings. There has been some discord with the way things are getting, or not getting, addressed when talked about in the Labor/Management Meetings. It seems like the folks necessary to make certain decision are unable to attend these meetings. When they can attend it has been so long there needs to be some looking into before decisions can be made. We would like to remedy this issue moving forward and continue to have the Labor/Management Meetings. The meetings are viewed as a gateway to work things out before they escalate, get things done, and share information on both sides.
The next meeting is scheduled for July 10th, 2018 at the Brickside Bar and Grill. If there are any issues that need brought up or you would like to stay informed with the current day to day happenings, I urge you to attend. The best place to stay informed with what has been going on around the plant is at our monthly meetings.
