We had our October monthly meeting and our 2018 Collective Bargaining Agreement (C. B. A.) Ratification Vote on the same day this month. The meeting and vote were held at a different venue than normal due to the timing of the vote. As usual, many departments were represented as we discussed an array of issues.
The meeting this month was short and sweet because the most important topic was the ratification of the proposed C. B. A. for 2018. The vote/meeting was held at the Lumberport Activities Building due to the length of time the polls needed to remain open. We had a large turnout for the vote and a good turnout for the meeting. After all the votes were tallied at poll closing, we were notified that the proposed 2018 C. B. A. had passed. We are now under a contract until the year 2022. Our current contract will expire in March of 2018 at which time we will just roll into the new one.
The actual meeting part of the vote/meeting day was very good. The discussions and issues brought up were talked over and we were able to get a few details worked out. Bernie LaBelle was present to help with any questions or issues not only with the new C. B. A., but also with our regular business. I strongly urge the membership to use the forum of the monthly meetings to their advantage to stay informed and help resolve issues.
Our next monthly meeting will be held at Brickside Bar and Grill where the last few have been held. We still have a committee taking ideas for different meeting venues, but so far, we will continue to have them here. Any suggestions on new or different meeting places would be welcomed. The meeting will be held at 1545 on November 14th. This will be our last regular meeting for the year so please come out, grab a meal, and get involved.
