This month’s meeting had a good turnout. We talked about our usual topics, but the meat and potatoes of the whole meeting were the nominations of union officers. We also covered the up and coming 2nd Annual Union Picnic being held at the end of this month. We set a date, place, and time for elections at this meeting as well.
We started the meeting going over the latest arbitrations and grievances. To be honest, there aren’t many theses days as things between the Company and the Union become more cordial over time. It does seem like there are some old favorites when it comes to our issues. One that we keep visiting is job qualifications and who holds them. Our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) makes it pretty clear when it comes to filling promotions or postings internally. The “senior qualified employees” who are interested in the job will be offered the job. “Seniority shall be given preference”. It seems straight forward to me, but we are still seeing some confusion on the Company side of this that we hope to clear up soon
We talked about the 2nd Annual 304 Family Picnic coming up later this month. The picnic will be held at Clarksburg Veterans Park on September 21st, 2019. It will be held from 1200 to 1800 at the Osbourne Shelter. This should prove to be a good time for all our members who attend. Last year was a great time, and it sounds like plans have only gotten better the second time around. The weather, if you can trust the meteorologists these days, looks like it will be beautiful.
Lastly, we held nominations for union officers for the upcoming term. There were some new names thrown out there for office this election year. The ballot for elections should be finalized later this month once all nominees either accept or decline the opportunity to run for office. Elections will be held October 8th, 2019 from 0630 to 1830 at the Lumberport Fire Hall. We looked into different places to hold our elections, but had issues with finding somewhere that could accommodate all of our needs.
Our regular monthly meeting will be on October 8th, 2019 at the Lumberport Fire Hall.
Remember, the monthly meeting is always the best place to voice concerns because we can actually do something about them while we are there. If you are curious about the status of the union or just curious about elections, I urge you to come. If you’re going to be there voting anyway you might as well stay for the meeting.
