YOUR Collective Bargaining Agreement. ARTICLE II, Union Membership and Dues, Section 3, Union Activities:
“Union will not engage in Union activities on Company time or property, except as required under the grievance procedure.”
UWUA Local 304 holds up and honors what we bargain.
The above clause in our CBA is WHY we have union meetings. Many times the union has information to put out and it has to be explained in a setting where members can fully understand and an atmosphere that allows members to feel free to ask questions.
This doesn’t mean we can’t talk to each other or answer questions when asked.
Union Member Bill of Rights – Union members have:
- equal rights to participate in union activities
- freedom of speech and assembly
- voice in setting rates of dues, fees, and assessments
- protection of the right to sue
- safeguards against improper discipline
We often refer to UWUA Local 304 as YOUR union. It sounds like a slogan, or a tagline, or some other type of advertisement to get you to take ownership of your union, but it REALLY is YOUR union!
If your union is not what you think it should be or want it to be, then you have the power to change it.
You do this by attending union meetings, by voting, and even serving as a union officer.
Having a union isn’t just “job insurance”, as we’ve heard some of he younger members claim, but unlike insurance, your protection is stronger and more complete when you participate.
Under your CBA you have guarantees, in writing, wages, hours, benefits, working conditions, and even a section that protects you if the plant is sold or transferred.
Unless YOU decide to throw it all away and place your trust and future in those who have proved, time and again, that they cannot be trusted to act with integrity and honor.
